COMBINATORIAL TOOLS IN PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS: First Greixa Workshop
A workshop held from June 6 to June 13, 2010
at the Berguedà Institute of Knowledge Enhancement
in Gréixer, Catalonia

Synopsis

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers to discuss new directions and open problems in the area of combinatorial methods in probability and statistics. Topics include hypothesis testing for combinatorial structures, gossip spreading in social networks, and the analysis of the giant component in random directed graphs.

Main speakers:

  • Stéphane Boucheron (Université Denis Diderot): The giant component of random directed graphs.
  • Nicolas Broutin (INRIA, Versailles): Percolation on averages.
  • Luc Devroye (McGill University): The speed of rumor spreading in social networks.
  • László Györfi (Technical University of Budapest): The rate of convergence of nearest neighbor classifiers.
  • Gabor Lugosi (ICREA and Universidad Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona): Sharp threshold in combinatorial testing problems.

Location

The workshop takes place at the Berguedà Institute of Knowledge Enhancement in Greixa. It can be reached from Barcelona by car in about an hour and a half.

Accommodation

Accommodation for the participants is provided at the premises of the Institute.
