The 7th I*EARN Conference took place in Beijing from 10 to 16 July 2000. I*EARN , the International Educational and Resource Network, is a large network of teachers who promote collaboration between pupils across the world via the Internet. On Tuesday 11 July 2000, the Global Song Project was presented as an educational project to promote understanding of different languages and cultures across the world. During Michael Greenacre's stay in Beijing, he obtained 22 translations of the Millennium Song from participants at the conference from the following countries: Israel, Egypt, Slovakia, Azerbaijan, Trinidad, Zimbabwe, Japan (six different versions!), Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Thailand, Mongolia, Jamaica, Macedonia and Sierra Leone. Some of these translations will be appearing on the Global Song web page by the end of July, others which require special alphabets will appear in September.
