Michael Greenacre

Michael Greenacre

Michael Greenacre is a South African living in Catalonia, Spain, and teaching Statistics and Mathematics in the Department of Economics and Business at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.  He has been playing piano since the age of five, and the guitar since the age of 20. Since the early 1970s he has been setting poetry to music and, more recently, writing arrangements for classical themes in different musical styles. The Millennium Song is one such example, an arrangement of Chopin's Prelude Op. 28 No. 20.

The Smooth Ones

After eight years of classical training, Michael started light music and played in various dance bands in his home city of Cape Town.  His move to Pretoria led to his playing with the quartet, The Smooth Ones, and meeting Leo and Wendy Theron, who greatly influenced his life, both musically and spiritually ( Leo is the stained-glass artist who made the Dove of Peace window in Michael's home in Sant Fruitós de Bages).

After moving to Catalonia, his collaboration with Gurdeep Stephens in Barcelona led to concerts at music festivals, notably the summer festivals of Tossa de Mar and the Café Concert series in Sant Fruitós de Bages, as well as inaugurations of several art exhibitions.
